The Texas Association of Fairs and Events (TAF&E) is partnering with the Texas Festivals and Events Association (TFEA) to produce a series of Behind-The-Scenes Tours and a classroom training event during the months of September and October.

The first event in the series will be a Behind-The-Scenes Tour of the nationally televised Mesquite Championship Rodeo. The tour will take place on September 29, which is the last day of the rodeo’s 50th Anniversary season. In addition to VIP suite rodeo tickets, attendees will get an operational tour of the facility including livestock arrival, sponsorship management, and television and marketing background.

On October 7, a Behind-The-Scenes Tour at the Texas Parks & Wildlife Expo will be held on the final day of this annual Austin event. In addition to an overall look at the production of the event, this tour will feature a special opportunity to “shadow” a staff member of the attendees choice.

The Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo in Waco will host a Behind-The-Scenes Tour on October 13. One of the highlights of the tour will include a focus on the successful programs the fair has created to recruit and train younger volunteers. Participation in the tour will include VIP entrance to “Locked and Loaded at the South 40 Saloon,” a fundraising event coordinated by the fair’s young adult volunteers. Also included are tickets to the PRCA rodeo and evening concert featuring Aaron Watson and Joe Nichols.

A classroom training event, featuring two credit courses for the Texas Event Leadership Program, will round out the workshop series on October 26 in Weslaco. Courses offered included Site and Logistics I & II (both TELP courses), Marketing and Advertising: The Basics Plus New Technologies To Promote Your Event, and The Variety of Entertainment from the South Texas Perspective. The workshop will be held in the meeting room of the Greater Weslaco Chamber of Commerce.

TAF&E thanks the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, Texas Parks & Wildlife Expo, Heart of Texas Fair & Rodeo and Weslaco Chamber of Commerce for making the workshop series possible. Click here to download a registration brochure and event schedules or call 830/997-0741 for more details.
